KatlZ, Riga/Latvia

KatlZ is the independent theatre production company based in Riga. The company creates performances which bring together different communities, culture and languages traditions in order to connect people and pay attention to everyone.

Born in Moscow in 1982, Dmitry Volkostrelov became the artistic director of the Center Named After Vsevolod Meyerhold (CIM) in February 2020. He graduated from the department of directing and acting at Moscow State University of Culture and Arts (MGUKI) in 2002. During his studies, he participated in performances at the Moscow State University Studio Theater. He also graduated from the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theater Arts on a studio course at the Academic Maly Drama Theater—Theater of Europe under the direction of L. Dodin. In 2006–2007, he worked at the Academic Maly Drama Theater—Theater of Europe. In 2011 Volkostrelov founded Theater-post in St. Petersburg, an independent theater ensemble that does not have its own platform and works mainly in non-theater spaces. He is a multiple winner of the Breakthrough St. Petersburg Youth Theater Award for Best Young Director and the winner of the Special Jury Award at the Golden Mask National Theater Awards in 2011. In 2019 he was nominated for a Golden Mask Award once again. He has over fifty directorial works in Moscow and St. Petersburg theaters. He has also worked as a theatrical artist on several projects in Moscow and Venice (Italy).
